The Hospital
Muskogee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is a 329-bed full-service hospital. As one of the first hospitals established in Oklahoma, MRMC has grown to become one of the state’s largest and most comprehensive facilities outside the Tulsa/Oklahoma City area. With a staff of 1,100 and a physician staff of 85 representing 23 medical specialties, the hospital serves a multi-county area. Its many services include a Cancer Treatment Center and an expanded Emergency Room that opened in 1996.
Cardiac services provided at Muskogee Regional Medical Center include EKG, Cardiac Ultrasound, Stress Testing, Nuclear Scanning, Holter Monitoring for the evaluation of heart rhythms, Pacemaker Insertion and Transesophageal Endoscopy, an internal echocardiograph procedure. MRMC also houses a Chest Pain Evaluation Unit. The Pavilion at Muskogee Regional Medical Center is a comprehensive mental health program which offers a unified approach to care through collaboration with a community network of services.
The Community
Muskogee is proud of its excellent school systems, which includes two junior colleges and a four-year university. The city boasts of wealth of museums and historical sites that showcase its proud heritage and rich legacy, including Three Rivers Museum, Five Civilized Tribes Museum, Muskogee War Memorial Park, Thomas-Foreman Historical Home, The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and the recently renovated Roxy Theater which hosts numerous events.
The 122-acre Honor Heights Park, one of the oldest and most famous city parks in America, features acres of manicured gardens and over 30,000 azaleas. The park hosts the world famous Azalea Festival, which attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year.
Just up the road is the city of Tulsa, home of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, the Tulsa Ballet and Symphony, two major art museums (Philbrook and Gilcrease), and the Tulsa Zoo as well as five professional sports teams in baseball, football, soccer, basketball and hockey.
Recreation
The Green Country surrounding Muskogee is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring an abundance of lakes, rivers and streams for fishing as well as wilderness areas for hunting. Muskogee is surrounded by four lakes—Ft. Gibson, Tenkiller, Eufaula and Greenleaf—all popular destinations for boating, fishing and weekend homes, with waterfront property that’s reasonably priced. In addition the Illinois River, located in nearby Tahlequah, is an ideal setting for canoe/raft float trips.
Closer to home, the Love/Hatbox Sports Complex features a water park, softball fields, baseball fields, soccer fields, skateboard park, batting cages and a walking/cycling trail. For golfers, there are three premier golf courses to choose from: the Muskogee Country Club, Eagle Crest and Cobblestone.
